About Angela González

portrait of keynote speaker Angela GonzalezAngela González is currently an assistant principal for the Kennewick School District at two different buildings. Her career in education began as a 3rd grade bilingual teacher in the Pasco School District. She taught 1st grade and 4th grade and was a bilingual reading specialist for grades K-5 in the Kennewick School District. Her experiences as a teachers included students of many backgrounds in the general education setting, the sheltered English instruction setting, the dual language setting and bilingual education setting.

As a teacher, Angela visited most of her student’s homes every summer before school began, providing them with the opportunity to meet her in the environment they were most comfortable. She did this to learn about the funds of knowledge they would bring to her classroom and used that to design rigorous and meaningful lessons. She engaged her students in rigorous learning standards through music, classroom transformations, and active engagement. Her involvement on committees such as the Action Team for Partnerships and the Hawthorne Magic Makers helped influence a culture of collaboration with all stakeholders in a child’s academic journey.

Angela values the support a family can bring. As a current assistant principal, Angela continues to bring a culture of collaboration through her support of various initiatives and teams. Angela works with families to help every student succeed by attending school every day, on time. She also works with teachers to engage their students in active learning and build relationships with them that go beyond the learning environment in order to impact learning.
