“Distance learning is more than just ‘moving schools online.’ Our nation’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic has changed schools and education as we know it.” – Jeff Utecht, internationally acclaimed educator

In response to the new distance learning challenges and needs the COVID crisis presented, the ESD 123 is partnering with Washington’s eight other ESDs (through the Association of Educational Service Districts AESD) to offer a professional learning series called Shifting Schools, led by international education consultant Jeff Utecht. The virtual workshops series focuses on implementing effective distance learning based on individual district and school contexts.

Executive Director of the AESD/OSPI Network, Jessica Vavrus, is thrilled that the state’s nine ESDs are joining together to offer this much-needed resource for school systems.

“The response to Shifting Schools was overwhelming,” states Vavrus, “each of the online sessions filled to capacity. We had to offer additional sessions to keep up with the demand statewide. Across the state, we’ve had 118 total school districts and over 3,000 educators engage in this professional learning. It is incredible to see this statewide collaboration!”

To keep up with demand, the AESDs just reopened registration for a new cohort with Shifting Schools. The registration window is only open for three days, from May 26-28. To register or learn more, visit https://bit.ly/2VCGjBo.
