Anyone who has regular, unsupervised access to children within the Preschool-12th grade education system in Washington State is required to have their fingerprints taken and submitted to OSPI. To keep up with the resulting start of school fingerprinting rush, ESD 123 has new fingerprinting kiosks to help educators apply for their necessary background checks and certifications more quickly and efficiently.

The kiosks, located in the main lobby, allow applicants to enter their personal information directly onto one of the tablets before their appointment. The information is then transmitted to Fingerprint Technician LeAndrew Alaman who can import it into the digital live scan fingerprinting system. This direct entry speeds up appointment times, while also reducing the number of mistakes made.

According to Mr. Alaman, this new system has almost doubled the number of appointments he can accommodate. He can now complete three fingerprints in 30 minutes, with breaks included, up from one per 15-minute block. With the paperwork information already completed on the kiosk, most applicants can finish their appointment in no longer than two minutes.

“It’s increased the number of fingerprints I can do and decreased the waiting time for applicants,” says Mr. Alaman.

With these faster turnarounds, wait times for scheduling appointments in the busy beginning of the school year has decreased from 2-3 weeks to 2-3 days. With this boost in efficiency, Mr. Alaman hopes to eventually offer walk-in fingerprinting services.

Until that time, if you need to schedule a fingerprinting appointment, please contact the ESD 123 front desk at 509.547.8441. More information on fingerprinting at ESD 123 can be found at http://www.esd123.org/programs__services/fingerprinting.
