District Profile

With the beautiful Walla Walla River and the Blue Mountains providing a panoramic backdrop, the rural town of Touchet is nestled in the middle of Southeast Washington in Walla Walla County. Both new and longtime residents of this supportive community enjoy the benefits of a financially and academically sound school district. Touchet retains the charm of a small town, while only 20 minutes from Walla Walla and 30 minutes from the Tri-Cities – both famous for shopping, restaurants, museums, and numerous outdoor activities. The community of Touchet also includes a golf course, many service organizations, and a volunteer fire/ EMT program. Along the Highway 12 corridor, wineries and vineyards dot the landscape, demonstrating the importance of this area to the State’s fastest-growing industry.

  • Build cultural competence through infusion of equity into all district processes and programs.
  • Implement a comprehensive communication model that reaches across the district and into the community. 

Qualities and Qualifications

The selected candidate should possess the following qualities and qualifications:
  • An authentic love for students and a core belief that all students can learn.
  • A visible, open, and collaborative leadership style that inspires and builds teamwork and trust among all stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including intentional listening
  • Strong, proactive leadership in developing and maintaining a wide range of programs and resources that are essential to a small district.
  • Knowledge of state school law and school finance
  • Successful experience in a school district with similar demographics. 
  • Sense of humor and an intense liking for children.
  • Honesty, integrity, empathy, and compassion.  A servant leader.
  • Successful financial management experience.
  • A willingness to listen to others, and then be willing to make difficult decisions and hold him/herself and others accountable.

Principal credential required


The school board will negotiate a multi-year contract with a salary based on experience and qualifications that is competitive with districts of a similar size. Compensation will include an appropriate benefit package.

Application Process

The Touchet School District Board of Directors has selected Educational Service District 123 to assist in the superintendent selection process. To apply, visit the ESD 123 employment website.

A completed application will include:

  • Formal letter of application
  • Completed application form available online
  • Current resume
  • A minimum of three but no more than five letters of recommendation
  • Completed Spark Hire Interview

Application materials shall be submitted electronically using the ESD’s online hiring platform. Applicants shall not contact school board members directly. Initial screening and preliminary interviews will be conducted by the Review Committee (per RCW 28A.310.170).

  • February 22 – Application deadline
  • February 23 - March 1 – Screening and reference checks
  • March 13 – Final interviews
  • Selection by the Board of Directors to follow (no later than March 26, 2019).
  • July 1 – Selected superintendent reports
