Reward Engaged Citizenship at an Early Age!

MP900409724The Daniel J. Evans Civic Education Award provides an opportunity for teachers to recognize students in the areas of social studies and community involvement. It’s a great way for adults to reward engaged citizenship at an early age!  Online nominations must be submitted by June 1. Any student in grades 3–12 who has successfully completed an OSPI-developed classroom assessment in civics and who is a civic leader in his/her classroom, school and/or community is eligible. Nominate a student today!

 

ESD 123 Brings WiFi to School Buses

WiFiBus_046ESD123 converted to entirely electronic Board meetings in 2008; however, on April 25, 2013, ESD 123 Board members experienced their first trip on a “wireless” school bus.  Thanks to collaboration with Prosser School District, the results of an innovative endeavor could be experienced first-hand by Board members and staff.

The concept of transforming school buses into mobile WiFi hotspots was first proposed by ESD 123 Superintendent, Bruce Hawkins, in July of 2012.  Technology Administrator, Jack Morris, took the lead on the project and secured five school districts to participate in the pilot to transform student transportation time into instructional time.
