Currently teaching kindergarten at Sage Crest Elementary, Mrs. Meagher has taught in the Kennewick School District since 2002. In addition to her recognition as a Regional Teacher of the Year recipient, Mrs. Meagher also received recognition as a 2020 Crystal Apple Award winner.

Mrs. Meagher’s colleagues describe her as a remarkable educator focused on creating safe and fun environments for all who enter who classroom. She is dedicated to cooperative and differentiated learning that pushes students of all abilities to excel. Students in Mrs. Meagher’s classroom take pride in their work and reflect the kindness and positivity modeled each day by their teacher.

In a nomination letter, one parent compares having Mrs. Meagher as both of her daughters’ teacher over the years to winning the lottery. She writes, “We were so lucky to have a teacher who we knew loved our children and made them feel special and important every day… Watching her interact with her students in the classroom is magical, but watching her at the end of the day walking her students to greet their parents is priceless.”

Like so many dedicated teachers, Mrs. Meagher is well known for spending countless hours after school and on the weekends preparing for her days. In addition to this, she is involved in numerous other activities at both the school and district level including READY! for Kindergarten classes, STEAM and Reading Nights, summer school, and Girls on the Run.

ESD 123 Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services Troy Tornow says, “Mrs. Meagher’s dedication to her students and the community of Kennewick is inspiring. The positive impact she has on the lives of her students is long-lasting and powerful. She is a great representative of our region’s education community, and we are excited to have Chenoa represent the ESD 123 region in the Washington Teacher of the Year program.”

As a regional Teacher of the Year recipient, Mrs. Meagher will compete against finalists from Washington’s eight other ESDs in hopes of being named the 2021 State Teacher of the Year. The Washington Teacher of the Year program is organized by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).
