Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

Nominations are now open to K-6 grade teachers for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). PAEMST is the highest national honor for K-12 math and science teachers. Since 1983, more than 4,800 teachers have received the award.

Awardees are models for their peers, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in STEM education. The NSF selects up to 108 awardees each year. Anyone--including educators, parents, and students--can nominate at www.paemst.org. To submit a nomination, you need the teacher’s name, email address, and school contact information. If you know more than one teacher who deserves the award, you may submit more than one nomination. Teachers may also apply directly at www.paemst.org.

Presidential awardees receive a:

  • Certificate signed by the President of the United States
  • Professional development trip to Washington, D.C.
  • $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation

The NSF administers PAEMST on the behalf of The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. The nomination deadline is March 1, 2020 and the application deadline is May 1, 2020, for elementary school teachers (grades K-6). Secondary school teachers (grades 7-12) may apply during a future cycle.

Classified School Employee of the Year

The Classified School Employee of the Year program recognizes one classified employee from each of Washington's educational service districts (ESDs) every year. A selection committee chooses the state Classified School Employee of the Year from this group of regional finalists.

The award is available to any classified school or district employee working at least half-time. The nomination deadline for the 2020 Classified School Employee of the Year is January 24, 2020. Submit a nomination from your district/school AND encourage the following groups to nominate too: teachers, classified staff, community members, businesses, service organizations, parents and caregivers, and students.
