ESD 123 offered its first Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training in Spanish on Saturday, April 16th! ESD 123 is the second agency in the country to provide the training in Spanish and currently has the only two trained Spanish-language instructors currently practicing in Washington.
This free 8-hour course was available to Spanish-speaking parents and community members who have or work with youth ages 12 to 18. YMHFA teaches a 5-step action plan to offer initial help to young people showing signs of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social, or self-help care.
The next Spanish YMHFA training is scheduled for
Saturday, May 21st from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM at Desert Oasis High School in Othello. Those interested in participating should contact Karla Motta at 509.412.5039 or
kmotta@esd123.org to register.
If your school district or community organization is interested in bringing Youth Mental Health First Aid training for Spanish-speaking adults in your community, please contact Monica Garcia at 509.405.0132 or
mgarcia@esd123.org for more information.
