The Content Coordinators at ESD 123 help teachers and school districts every day. Assistance includes supporting efforts to increase teacher leaders and providing workshops in various content areas including math, science, STEM and literacy. Learn more about each of our team members below.

EDUCATOR GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT - Meet Mary

Portrait of Mary KirbyMary Kirby serves ESD 123 as the Educator Growth and Development Coordinator. In this role, Mary serves as the Beginning Educator Support Team (BEST) lead, providing support to novice teachers in the first years of their career and the mentors who work directly with them. Mary joined the ESD team in February of 2013. In addition, she is a member of OSPI Mentor Faculty providing Mentor 101 training, OSPI Induction Coach providing coaching to BEST districts, and OSPI Mentor Round Table Faculty providing monthly workshops for teacher mentors. Mary also serves as the Teacher Principal Evaluation Program (TPEP) lead working with districts to implement a standards-based system as a tool for teacher and principal growth and evaluation.

Prior to joining the ESD, Mary worked as a high school English teacher in South Brunswick, New Jersey; Walnut Creek, CA; and Santa Rosa, CA. Having a keen interest in serving struggling readers, Mary spent time as a researcher for READ 180® at Scholastic in New York City where she observed READ 180 in classrooms around the country. Mary holds a WA teacher certification in English language arts with an endorsement in English language learners. Mary earned a master’s degree in education: curriculum and instruction in 2002, a Single Subject Teaching Certification in English with a cross cultural language and development emphasis in 1998, and a bachelor’s degree in English in 1996.

SCIENCE - Meet Lorianne

portrait of Lorianne DonovanLorianne Donovan serves ESD 123 as the Regional Science Coordinator. In addition, she is the SE LASER Alliance Director, which works with the region’s districts to ensure quality science instruction for all students. She joined the ESD team in September of 2019, bringing a passion for STEM education for all ESD 123.

Lorianne has 28 years of classroom teaching experience. She received her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Washington University and her master’s degree from Washington State University. Lorianne is a Crystal Apple award recipient and was a state finalist for Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).

LITERACY - Meet Lindsey

Portrait of Lindsey BackusLindsey Fangman serves ESD 123 as the Regional Literacy Coordinator. Lindsey joined the ESD team in August of 2018. In addition, Lindsey works closely with AVID to support both staff and teachers in several districts.

Prior to joining the ESD, Lindsey worked as a middle school language arts teacher in the Dual Language department in Pasco, WA, a fifth grade teacher in Eltopia, WA, and on the White Mountain Apache Reservation in Northern Arizona. Having a keen interest in serving struggling readers, she spent time as a Washington Core Advocate helping create resources for teachers around the country and participating in several Dual Language conferences. Lindsey holds a WA teacher certification in elementary education. She earned a master’s degree in education: reading and mathematics in 2012.

portrait of Molly BrinkleyEducational Technology and Computer Science - Meet Molly

Molly Brinkley serves ESD 123 as the Regional Educational Technology Coordinator. In addition, she is the Computer Science lead who works with districts in our region to ensure all students receive quality computer science instruction. She joined the ESD team in August of 2021, bringing a zeal for educational technology to both the ESD and districts in the region.

Molly has over 19 years of experience in education. Prior to joining the ESD, Molly worked in various Texas districts as a teacher, Instructional Technology Specialist, and Director of Instructional Technology and Assessment. Molly holds both a Washington teacher certification for Middle Level Math and Science, and an Administrator certification. Molly earned a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies focused on middle school math and science in 2000, a master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology in 2014, and principal certification in 2018.
