 YCCTPP Program Updates

Youth Cannabis and Commercial Tobacco Prevention Program (YCCTPP)
We have concluded another great year in prevention at Educational Service District 123! Our mission was to provide marijuana and tobacco prevention education for schools, communities, youth, influential adults, and other stakeholders. We worked hard to implement marijuana and tobacco prevention initiatives to reduce initiation and the use of marijuana and tobacco by youth ages 12-20 in the Latino/Hispanic community.

Briseida Chavez, Marijuana/Tobacco Prevention and Education Specialist, and Monica Garcia, Marijuana/Tobacco Prevention Professional, made a wonderful team to help accomplish work plan goals and objectives. Despite Monica leaving for maternity duty, Briseida was able to take on projects and manage the workload. Upon returning, Monica was able to swiftly reintegrate herself into the team and finish off the year strong. To recap the 2022-2023 fiscal year, we wanted to provide a few highlights to show all the great work that is happening!

  • Program staff completed over 160 hours of professional development training.
  • We had four main goals and were able to meet most of our objectives:
    • Youth Outreach
    • Tobacco Cessation
    • Education for Influential Adults
    • Collaboration with other Hispanic/Latino Groups
  • The 2022-2023 Youth Art Contest was a success! Please see pictures below of some of the events we hosted in partnership with other community serving organizations. (Art Workshops led by Hollie Zepeda of Art YOUR Way.)

Kahoot! Game about Vaping Prevention in Spanish:

Our partner, Amanda Dugger, created a Vaping Education Kahoot! game for youth. We adapted the presentation for parents and made the content available in Spanish. The Kahoot! game is an interactive way to receive vaping education information to help parents prevent use in their youth and in their community.  If you have a parent group who speaks Spanish interested in receiving this information, please connect with us.

Funding available to provide Art Workshops to youth groups:

We have once again partnered with ARTYOURWAY to provide art workshops to local youth groups. Read the article above and view previous canvas art done by Hollie and some of the youth groups in our area. If you are interested in having Hollie host an art workshop with your youth group, please contact Monica Garcia at [email protected]
