Partnership Opportunities

Youth Vaping

What should educators do if they catch students vaping at school? Truth Initiative released an article that outlines best practices for addressing student tobacco use at school, informed by their report Discipline Is Not the Answer: Better Approaches to On-Campus Student Tobacco Use.

What’s trending: E-Cigarettes

CADCA developed this infographic as part of their “What’s Trending?” infographic series to educate preventionists, engage community members, and inform the broader public about the dynamic landscape of e-cigarette trends. Download the infographic at www.cadca.org/resources-center.

Not Your Grandfather's Cigar

Cheap & sweet cigars lure America's kids. Cigar manufacturers and retailers are required to have a marketing order from the FDA before a new cigar can be sold, however, companies continue to introduce new flavored cigars that appeal to youth. In the past few years, the National Youth Tobacco Survey indicated that cigars are the second most popular tobacco product among youth. This updated 2023 report from Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies and Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids educates about combustible cigars and documents how the continued proliferation of new, flavored cigars and their marketing still threatens our youth and demonstrates the need for common-sense regulation of cigars. The report also describes how companies have avoided regulations, including new product marketing restrictions and tobacco taxes, and how this has also contributed to the ongoing problem of youth use.

New Clinical Decision Resource

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is pleased to introduce a novel clinical decision resource: the Youth Tobacco Cessation Progressive Web App (PWA). This tool is crafted to aid physicians and other clinicians in supporting youth tobacco cessation by implementing the Ask-Counsel-Treat model within a clinical setting. Versatile and suitable for use across various systems, the PWA can be accessed on a computer, tablet, or as an offline mobile app. Additionally, it includes links to product descriptions, AAP policy and clinical reports, behavioral support options, and comprehensive information on pharmacologic support. Explore and utilize the PWA at aap.org/HelpKidsQuit.
